The Earth is rapidly undergoing global environmental change, particularly the climate, that poses a threat to sustainability of natural and anthropogenic systems. Most of the climate predictions forecast a rise in atmospheric temperature by over 2 degree Celsius by end of this century. This would trigger a series of events like global warming, sea level rise, loss of lives and biodiversity and greater incidence of epidemics and natural disasters that would endanger the existence of mankind on this planet. The COP21 of the UNFCCC has brokered the Paris Agreement that tends to foster collective action by nation states, sub-national authorities, private sector and non-governmental organizations. As a responsible organization, ISARD is an actively involved in the themes of global warming, climate change, mitigation and adaptation, disaster vulnerability and risk reduction and climate resilience. It is also committed to sustainability science and transformations to sustainability. The activities range from steering research projects, policy advisory, academic collaborations to dissemination, training and advocacy.

Climate and Biodiversity Conservation

thumbs One of ISARDs activity is to raise the environment awareness level of the entire society, through campaigns on environmental practice. In order to motivate the people to protect the environment, ISARD has taken up environment conservation initiatives, predominantly implemented through self-help groups. The main aim of the programme is to protect the people from global warming situation. The major programme activities that are being carried out include: Awareness raising for benefit of plantation, Circulation of information and communication materials, Awareness for environmental health, Research & Documentation. ISARD has developed a concrete programme mainly for forestation and water conservation. The activities therein include awareness campaigns,

mass plantation of saplings at schools, forest, private and temple lands and roadside. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India through their Regional Resource Agency, Punjab Science and Technology, Chandigarh was assigned Biodiversity Conservation in Urban & Peri-Urban Areas of Khatari and Kania Village as peri-urban area. Two Colleges, one Hindu Inter-College, Madhya Pradesh in urban areas and another Government Inter-College in the centre of Jim Corbett (Forest and peri-urban areas), Ramnagar were selected under the National Environmental Awareness Campaign programme. The methodology adopted for biodiversity conservation included use of audio-visuals for setting learning modules, interactive sessions with stakeholders, focused lecture on biodiversity and its conservation by experts and local resource person, preparation of Biodiversity Register and gathering feedback from stakeholders.
